Learn about DS artist Michael Johnson
Michael would like to show his beautiful painting to everyone in the DS community and to share his good fortune. It is nice to get some good news for a change!
A DS organization asked Michael to do a painting for an art competition for artists with disabilities in May. The top three artists each win $500 cash and are entered into a huge national and international art exhibit in the fall. If Michael’s painting wins it will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people!
The title of the painting is “Enough To Share?”
The DS organization is very happy with the watercolor Michael sent. The little boy is a portrait he is painting for Father’s Day. Michael painted an acrylic portrait of the little boy’s sister who has DS, two years ago. The little boy’s mother gave permission for Michael to use the photograph. Michael used materials he has on hand: an Arches watercolor block and Winsor&Newton paints he bought to do horse paintings for the AAEA Open Juried Exhibit in Kentucky this year. His
painting is small and naive compared to the other entries in ArtPrize, but it has impact, and it has a story that everyone can relate to, the environment, the economy, animal rescue…
