SMILE meeting info

Thank you to everyone who attended Sunday’s SMILE Parent Network meeting! We received really important information from Katie Sullivan from The ARC of Indiana. We will soon post to our SMILE website a synopsis of info from today’s meeting.

For those of you unable to attend, you were truly missed. I’d like to see more of our SMILE families come so we can all share together the highs and lows of our parenting and learn from one another. We are not one of the “support groups” that sit in a woe-is-me-session and complain about life. I have seen via video those types of groups and SMILE has never been that type! I am thankful that we have families who come together to encourage one another, share our struggles in a constructive way and learn what works for others. The best part of our meetings is seeing all the kids growing and learning and becoming engaged in the world around them!

We have two other SMILE meetings at The Women’s Hospital this year. I know I sent the info a couple months ago but please be sure to mark your calendars for the following dates:

Sunday, September 5th – SMILE Parent Network – The Women’s Hospital – Kim Derk of Behavior Solutions Network will be our guest speaker

Saturday, October 2nd – 2010 BUDDY WALK! – Vanderburgh County 4-H Fairgrounds

Sunday, November 7th – SMILE Parent Network at The Women’s Hospital – speaker TBA – any good suggestions? send me the info, please!

Sunday, December 5th – SMILE Christmas Party at Deaconess Johnson Hall – downtown Eville – same place as last year

We will be adding some additional family activities on the calendar and will update you as we set the events. We do not want to overextend our families by having too many activities but we do need to just have fun together a few times!!! Everyone is so busy with family events and we do not want to compete.

We will be planning a Couples Night Out for sometime in June. There is also interest in a Couples Retreat weekend sponsored by Community Marriage Builders and will be done here in Evansville. More info on this in the future.

Also, for your information, we are not doing a trip to Holiday World this year.

If you have any suggestions for better meeting days or times, or suggestions on guest speakers, PLEASE let me know!!! I truly want your imput!!!

SMILE-ing for you,
Nina
