SMILE on Down Syndrome SMILE Center Coming Soon!!!

The SMILE on Down Syndrome Parent Network is excited to announce that we are in the midst of plans to open the first SMILE Center in Evansville, IN. The SMILE Center will provide enrichment experiences for individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities and their families. It is our goal to provide activities for all ages, beginning with newborns and their parents, tutoring for pre-schoolers through high school, life skills for post-high school adults and creative, interactive play times for various age groups, as well as enrichment opportunities for parents and professionals.

With this Center, we will be able to do many supportive events for families in several surrounding counties within the Tri-State. We are tremendously excited as it is a wonderful opportunity for community volunteers and our families to share together as we meet our kids’ and families’ needs! Here is a peek at what we plan to provide:

  • Play-groups & Mom 2 Mom Mentoring for specific ages:
    Infants – age 2 (Criers & Crawlers)
    Pre-School ages 3-5 (Pencil pushers)
    Elementary 6-11 (Readers & Rascals)
Middle School – 12-14 (Trying Tweens)
High School – 15- (Maturing Teens)
    Adults – post HS (Self-Advocates)
    PARENTS – Enrichment (Heroes)

Play groups, tutoring – literacy, math, writing, HW support; Skills Development for HS and Adults with Down syndrome such as cooking, nutrition, dating/sexuality/finances; movie nights, karaoke, dance, game & pizza nights, and more will be offered on a regular basis.

We will provide guest speakers for parents, teachers and other professionals that will offer educational enrichment to support their efforts at home, school and workplace.

The new Center will be located at 105 NW 4th Street in Downtown Evansville. Construction is currently underway, but we are looking for community assistance to help grow the Center to its full potential. Sponsorships are available, and any interested business or individual can contact SMILE on Down Syndrome Executive Director Nina Fuller at 812.449.6049 for additional information.
