Magic for SMILEs
SMILE on Down Syndrome’s Magic for SMILEs event took place yesterday and was presented by First Bank. It was held at 2:00pm at the Victory Theater, and it was a variety show for the entire family, featuring 7 professional entertainers from across the country!
Performances were given by:
Tom Vorjohan: Host & MC Tom just loves making people laugh! His performance contains a unique blend of comedy, magic, funny business, and audience participation. Starting at the age of 12, Tom was bitten by the “magic bug.” In the 43 years since his first paid show as a youth, he has taken his teenage hobby and made it an obsession as well as a full-time profession. He has been awarded the prestigious Order of Merlin by The International Brotherhood of Magic. Tom resides in Knoxville, TN, but called the Evansville area “home” from 1990-1996. He is looking forward to bringing his magic back to Evansville.
Studio D: Studio D is a place where kids of all ages can learn to dance. Studio D is very active in the community appearing at many events in Evansville, including Magic Cares, Santa’s Arrival at Eastland Mall, Fall Festive Parade and Christmas Parade.
Jessica Reed: World champion magician, Jessica Reed, has amazed audiences throughout the world. She has been performing magic for almost 28 years. In that time, she has been featured in numerous newspaper articles and magazines. One of the most prestigious magazines is the International Brotherhood of Magicians monthly magazine “The Linking Ring” on which she and her sisters were featured on the cover. She has also been featured in a Japanese documentary that aired in Japan for several years, as well as many television appearances here in the United States.
Daniel Herron: “The Balloon Guy” has been creating balloons and twisting at fairs, festivals, and events for more than a decade. His craft has taken him from coast-to-coast and has landed him on television in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee on multiple occasions. Daniel is a true professional who loves to entertain and create! Sit back and enjoy a “unique form of MAGIC”!
Brandon Baggett: Brandon Baggett is a second-generation magician following in the footsteps of his father. Brandon began performing magic at the age of 5 and hasn’t looked back. In 2007 Brandon was the park magician for Six Flags St. Louis where he starred in his own one-man magic show. Brandon and his wife Brandi recently moved to Indianapolis where they are quickly becoming rising stars with a list of rapidly growing corporate clients!
Dinky Gowen: Dinky has performed on stages all across America and with some of the biggest names in the magic industry. He performs over 600 shows per year and has won multiple awards. His company, Gowen Productions, produces three live shows at Beech Bend Amusement Park in Bowling Green, KY. He has been featured on television and radio.
Matt Jergens: International gold medalist juggler Matt Jergens has been making audiences laugh for over 20+ years. Whether he’s performing on five-star cruise lines, in major theme parks, or at events across the country his high-energy performances are always a hit! Matt’s clients include Foxwoods Casino, Universal Studios Florida, Hershey Park, Honda, US Airways, and Holland America Cruise Lines.
Don Baggett: Don Baggett has been performing magic in the Tri-State since the age of 10. His magic has taken him across the country performing for corporate events, comedy clubs, schools, zoos, cruise ships and theme parks. Don is the featured magician/illusionist at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari. He has also made several television appearances, throughout the area, performing magic. Don is the producer and director for todays “Magic for SMILEs” performance and was joined by his onstage partner Dakota Moody.
Funds raised at the Magic for SMILEs event will be used to provide enrichment services, financial aid, and parent support services to families in the Tri-State area with a loved one with Down syndrome. SMILE on Down Syndrome has also expanded its services to individuals with autism and other cognitive disabilities, so funds raised at the event will be used to enrich the lives of those self-advocates as well!
