Successful A Night of Stars and Style 2016
Last Sunday’s A Night of Stars and Style event would not have been possible without the help of 21 amazing local celebrities who gave of their time and interest to SMILE on Down Syndrome! Thank you Missy Mosby, Doros Hadjisavva, Kat Mykals, Stacey Godbold, Jonathan Weaver, Jacob Taylor, Nancy Tarsitano Drake, Sherry Wright, Heidi Garza, JoBeth Bootz, Victoria Rae, Kana L. Brown, Alex Schmitt, Katie Watts, Michelle Mercer, Tate Elizabeth, Carol McClintock, Mayor Winnecke, Monte Skelton, and Dana Nelson (as well as our emergency fill in Maxi-Taylor Mcdaniel) for not only helping bright hope for the future for those with Down syndrome and other cognitive disabilities, but also for taking great care of our self-advocates to help them safely navigate our runway and for as one mom put it “making dreams come true.” This was truly a once in a lifetime experience for many of these wonderful individuals, and I thank you for helping build those memories for them, their families, and all of our other many guests! It was quite a night to remember and well beyond my greatest expectations! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
On to thanking the super stars of the evening… my self-advocates! I cannot even begin to tell you how unbelievably proud I am of each and every one of them. Hope F, Tess Fuller, Eddie, Kim, Brooklyn, Nick, Layton, Hailey, Josiah, Timothy Kramer, Allie Perkins, Dahlia, Sissy, Meredith, Zeiram, Collin Clarke, Jon, Hope, Brian Kellems, Brady, and Emma all did an outstanding job!!! I would also, though, like to stop and take a moment to thank their parents. From fittings, to our walk through, to calming nerves, and keeping excitement at a manageable level, their moms and dads did me the biggest of honor by allowing me to have their kids participate and the greatest of service by sticking close to help me manage the whole project onsite! Your families should be proud of each of you and the community service that you just did together! I am tremendously grateful for every moment of your time and the piece of your heart you shared with SMILE in order to be involved in our crazy, first-time endeavor of a style show of this magnitude. This was by far the most high profile, complicated event that I have EVER in my life produced, and you all made my job easy by being SO GREAT to work with. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
With that being said, please save the date for next year’ event! We can’t wait to see you Sunday, March 12, 2017at Eastland Mall in the Café Court for our 2nd annual A Night of Stars and Style Event!
