Congratulations upon the birth of your new baby!
With the discovery of your baby having Down syndrome you may have entered into a whole new world – one that can be confusing and filled with deep feelings at first. It is our hope that with information and support, you will be able to understand your feelings, learn about your baby’s special needs, and grow in the love your baby has to offer.
The birth of a new baby is, and should be, a time for celebration and joy. Your baby may not be as you have dreamed, but please know that your baby is more like other babies than unlike. Just like all babies, your baby needs your guidance, safekeeping and most importantly, love.
Because your child has Down syndrome, we would like to share some information and lend a support for the journey that lies ahead.
S.M.I.L.E. on Down Syndrome is an Evansville area parent group that meets every other month to learn from speakers about various topics. We also enjoy free childcare while interacting with other families and learning from one another on our various journeys. Throughout the year, we also get together for fun family activities and provide benevolence funds to help with some of the therapies and community activities not covered by insurance or tight budgets.
Please do not hesitate to call to ask any questions. We understand what you are going through and we know you will love your new little one as much as we love our own! We are here for you!
Again, warmest congratulations!
